Doctors and Tests

The first part of this week started out to be a week of tests for G-Man. Several have asked how his tests came out this week so I thought I would just blog about it. On Tuesday, he went to a new neurologist that was recommended by his aunt and uncle, because the neurologist in the ER wouldn't return any of our calls and didn't seem to care about getting to the bottom of things as far as why he had the seizure in the first place. I was able to go wtih him on Tuesday along with his aunt to see this new neurologist.

We had taken a copy of the brain scan with us that the hospital had done on G-man after he had his seizure. The neurologist looked at that scan right away after entering his office on Tuesday and very soon pointed out a spot on the brain scan that no one had mentioned to us before. There is a mass or some spot that is about the size of a quarter or 50 cent piece that showed up on the brain scan that is on the back of G-man's brain. The doctor seemed to think it looked like a head trauma of some sort and he thinks that may have been what caused the seizure. For those of you who do not know, G-man was adopted at the age of 4, but from the time he was born til he was 3 years old, he was severely abused by his biological mother. After revealing this to the doctor, that just confirmed it for him that he was pretty sure that what he was seeing on the brain scan was trauma to the head. He ordered an MRI and EEG and they made the appointment for G-man to have those tests done on Wednesday.

I was not able to go with him for those because it was in the afternoon and I had to be here for when the boys got home. He was gone about 4 hours and then he came home. He was able to talk to the doctor after the MRI before the EEG, and he said the MRI showed the same thing that he suspected, trauma on the brain. He also saw some fluid surrounding it, but he said it wasn't water, it was some other type of fluid, possibly a blood clot, but he just couldn't be sure. He called the next day to discuss the EEG results with us and it showed that yes, he did have a seizure two weeks ago but as far as he could tell, that was the only seizure he has had. He isn't sure why G-man is suffering dizziness, but he suspects it has to do with the head trauma from years ago.

Unfortunately though, since it happened so long ago, and that spot on his brain looked like some of it had calcified (whatever that means) then he said doing brain surgery was not an option because it would be too risky since he wasn't entirely sure what part was calcified and what wasn't. Therefore there isn't a whole lot they can do now, since it has most likely been years since the trauma on the brain happened. The only thing the doctor can do is work from here on out so G-man is supposed to continue on with his anti-seizure medication and follow-up with the doctor in 6 weeks to see if the dizziness has gotten any better. The doctor said that G-man will have to be on the anti-seizure medicine for about 6 months to a year and then when they do take him off of it, then they are going to take him off of it slowly because cutting it all at once could cause another seizure.

It was a frustrating week thinking we were going to get answers and then spending money for these tests and not really getting any answers, but we know that God is in control and He has blessed and provided for us so far and we know that he is going to continue to do so!!! Thank you all so much for your prayers, calls, texts, and especially to all those who have been driving us around to church, work, store, appointments, etc. We so appreciate it!! We will keep you all updated if there is any changes! ♥ Until next time...

I can imagine that your week was so frustrating. Not getting specific answers can always be bothersome. I am happy, though, that the answers you did receive were more positive. No surgery! WOOHOO! I hope that your efforts to get to the bottom of all of this has helped put your (and G-man) mind at ease. Always remember that Debbie and I are here for you and the family. It would just be "SO horrible" if I had to watch those boys if G-man and you needed to run some errands or go to a doctor's appointment ;)
